Facebook page out of Brazil is taking soccer trolling to a whole new level. Where other pages might highlight great goals or wonderful bits of skill, “Ensina, Romário” (Teach Them, Romário) takes agonizing misses from today’s soccer matches and mocks them by putting them side-by-side with goals from similar positions, scored by Brazilian legend Romário.
The page’s self-described mission is to show Romário’s goals as a learning tool: “They lose, Romário teaches,” reads the description on Facebook. Noble though that mission might be, the page definitely reads as a troll, and a hilarious one at that. After all, few players can be compared to the legendary Romário, who led Brazil to its victory at the 1994 World Cup, and some of the misses highlighted on the page aren’t even that shocking.
Of course, others truly are horrible misses, and that’s where the “Ensina, Romário” gets most of its humor, such as with this brutal 1-on-1 collapse from Ponta Preta’s William Pottker.
Or this one, which sees Palmeiras’ Willian doink the crossbar after rounding the keeper successfully.
“Ensina, Romário”‘s true value comes not just from the laughs, however; it’s the resurfacing of Romário’s legacy of elegance on the pitch that is truly enjoyable.
